The video series provide sub 5-minute news style reports that cover current world events and showcase DigitalGlobe’s imagery and analysis.  Until recently, these reports have only been released internally, as a way to get feedback to polish the final video product.  The first publicly available video is an overview of the Analysis Center and was created for display in DigitalGlobe’s booth at the 2011 GEOINT conference.  The video was also added to DigitalGlobe’s YouTube channel and is embedded below.  Fast Company also embedded the video in their article about “Google Earth, Foreign Wars, And The Future Of Satellite Imagery”

We were involved in publishing an Enhanced eBook that was recently approved and has gone live as an iBook in the Apple iBookstore.  We are calling this an “Enhanced eBook” due to the fact that there is a video included in the full version.  The video is embedded in the pages of the book and can be expanded to full screen in landscape or vertical orientation.  The title is available on the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch devices.

The tricky part is actually finding the iBook.  The only way to discover the title is to download the free iBook app and load it on your iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch.  Once you are in the app you can browse or search in the iBookstore, make purchases or download free titles and load them into the library on your device.

One cool feature we discovered during this process is that Apple creates a sample that is free to download.  It contains a limited number of pages and allows the user to purchase from within the pages of the book.  This particular sample does not include the video, but we have seen other titles, like Nixonland, that contain several videos in their sample iBook.

If you have been paying attention to the world of book publishing you may have noticed a dramatic shift starting to take place.  The traditional model and relationship between publisher and author is changing due to the emergence of digital publishing technologies and electronic books.  Devices like the Amazon Kindle, Apple iPad, Barnes & Noble Nook, Sony Reader, Kobo eReader and many others are being favored by readers instead of traditional print books and some are offering interactive elements like audio and video within the digital pages.

This mixed media approach to book publishing caught our attention earlier this year and several opportunities presented themselves to us soon after.  The first project that we were involved in was an interactive digital comic book titled “Calling Einstein”, which is part of the “Adventures of Mr.Thompkins” book series.  The digital comic has an interactive experience allowing the reader to swipe between pages, tap to expand panels and pinch to zoom in and out of each page.  There is also an “extras” section that gives the reader access to several videos and transcriptions that are relevant to the digital comic.  The title is an App available for the iPad.

We have also started creating iBooks for authors looking to get their titles into Apple’s iBookstore and onto digital devices.  The iBook format can feature audio and video content within the digital pages and can be viewed on the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch devices.

Since the beginning of 2010 we have been getting back into the live video game and have successfully broadcast a handful of events including the monthly Boulder New Tech Meetup.  Our renewed interest in live broadcasting is due to faster broadband and new tools available that make the end user experience a very good one.  We were turned on to the new Ustream Producer software, which allows the broadcaster to easily prep graphics in advance and mix a variety of audio, video and graphics on the fly during the live event.

We have more live events scheduled over the next couple of months and are now offering live video broadcasting as a service to companies looking to reach larger audiences and a way for people to participate without having to be present at the location of the meeting or event.  This service can be used for internal company communications or external broadcasts to the general public.

OnSight Media was contracted to produce a video for DigitalGlobe to be displayed at a recent tradeshow.  The goal of the video was to showcase their satellite imagery, tell the story of the company and describe their product offerings.  The total length of the video is 7-minutes and it was set to loop in their booth on a large quad-screen video display.

Custom video for tradeshows is becoming more common and this project emphasizes our ability to create a custom video solution based on unique customer requirements.

The Colorado BioScience Association is putting on a series of 6 presentations around Colorado highlighting the work of Discovery Grant Program recipients. The first group presented on May 5th in Aurora, CO and included Dr. Douglas Graham, Dr. Karen Stevens, Dr. Kay Holmes, Dr. Leland Shapiro, Dr. Stephen Hunsucker and Dr. Steve Anderson.

OnSight Media is contracted to provide video services for each of these presentations, which will be used to broadcast to schools and individuals interested in this content. The May 5th video presentations can be found here:

May 5th, 2008 Discovery Grant Program

The Colorado BioScience Association held its annual member meeting on April 29th. OnSight Media was contracted to record the guest speaker – Duane J. Roth of CONNECT. The presentation was 1 hour long and included PowerPoint slides.

We took the PowerPoint presentation and added the slides into the final video segments. All video content was converted to Flash and incorporated into an interactive online piece showcasing the entire presentation broken into 5 parts.

The 60th Annual Conference on World Affairs was held  April 7th through the 11th on the University of Colorado campus. We worked with Tapes Again to provide audio recordings of roughly 400 individual panels.

The project required a coordinated effort between 5 individuals to setup audio recorders in rooms around campus, retrieve finished sessions, dump the audio to a computer for editing and then burn CD’s for immediate sale. MP3 downloads will be available at a later date and we will update this post when the links are available. The University recorded video for select panels and provided a master DVD for duplication.

On Thursday March 27th Kevin Cawley put together Boulder’s first Facebook Developer Garage. We joined forces with Kevin and provided a live video broadcast of the event. Here are the details of the broadcast:

We used a Panasonic DVX100A mounted on a tripod with an Audio Technica AT897 shotgun microphone. We connected the the camera to a Dell laptop via Firewire and used UStream’s free live video broadcasting service. We also ran audio out of the camera via RCA and connected to the laptop via the microphone jack. A little tweaking was necessary for clean audio, and we were provided with instant feedback via the UStream chat room once the audio was fixed. Initially we only had 3 online viewers for the live video broadcast, but as word got out via email, blogs and eventually Twitter, the viewer count climbed as high as 43 simultaneous viewers. The chat room remained a hot spot with most of the online viewers participating. The live stream was up for over 2 hours without a hitch.
