Lotus LIVE at Quixote’s

Lotus Live at Quixote's

On December 29th Lotus played the second of two nights at Quixote’s True Blue music venue. We headed down early to record the show and test out a new service that we will be rolling out soon – Live Video Streaming / Webcasting. Despite the poor weather (blizzard conditions) the place filled to the brim and Lotus closed their second set a little after 1:30 a.m.

Prior to the concert, we created a custom web page (photo above) with an embedded Windows Media Player. The player had the address of the server that we were uploading the live stream to, so all a viewer had to do was go to the webpage and the video would automatically start to play – Live. Once we realized we could push video to the server, we notified the band, posted a message on their forum, and called a few people to spread the word – all in an hour before showtime.

We were broadcasting live for almost the entire first set, plus the opening DJ. The wifi connection we were using to broadcast the show was a little weak, but we were able to push the video to the server and had 34 simultaneous viewers at one point during the show. Unfortunately, someone took down the wifi router just minutes before the first set concluded, and it never came back. All in all it was a successful test and we are excited about the possibilities that live streaming presents.

Stay tuned for more information and new live event broadcasts in the near future.
